Security guards, be they employees or persons employed by a contracted security service, have important responsibilities to fulfill.
A responsible security guard is trained and actively ensures that lives and property are protected from natural or human events, be they accidental or malicious.
Similar to the role of the safety and health practitioner, the security should have the training (resulting in the knowledge and skills) and experience to prevent incidents from occurring as well as the competencies to intervene if an incident should occur.
Thus the security guard must be able to continually focus on prevention, protection and emergency intervention in dealing with the protection of lives and property.

An alarm raised by a lone worker or other vulnerable person is a cry for help for a response.
It is in the ARC alarm receiving centre that the response is organised and without it the device or app which initiates the alarm is of limited value.
The aim of this article is to shed some light on ARCs and their increasing importance in protecting lone workers and other vulnerable people.
Expanding applications
Estimates put the number of Lone Workers in the UK at around 6 million.
What started in the UK some 10 years ago as a service for them and their employers has expanded to include other vulnerable people.
